A quick look at the most notable jumps and drops on this week’s Hot 100 singles charts.
The Billboard Hot 100
– Eminem: While the rapper loses his No. 1 standing on the Billboard 200, he remains perched atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a seventh frame with “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna. The song tops Radio Songs for a fourth week, improving to 159 million listener impressions (up 3%), according to Nielsen BDS, while downloads sales slip 12%, according to Nielsen SoundScan, though the track rebounds 3-2 on Digital Songs.
– Katy Perry: She becomes the latest threat to end Eminem and Rihanna’s stay at No. 1 as “Teenage Dream” takes both the Airplay and Digital Gainer awards with a jump from 3-2. A bump in download sales (259,000, up 24%) gives the singer her third chart-topper on Digital Songs, while an 11-7 bounce on Hot 100 Airplay (84.3 million, up 30%) ups her top 10 tally on that list to five.
– Taio Cruz: “Dynamite” had looked like a serious contender to the Hot 100 throne, but the song takes a step back from 2-3 this week mainly due to download erosion (down 11% to 178,000). Airplay continues to increase though, with a 3% improvement to 131 million listener impressions, good for a No. 2 standing on Hot 100 Airplay.
– Taylor Swift: “Mine” makes a quick return to the top 10 after a one-week break, rebounding 14-9. With radio play continuing to rise (18-12 on Radio Songs, up 20%), downloads increase for the first time since the track debuted three weeks ago (97,000, up 11%).
– Lil Wayne: After a top 10 debut last week, the rapper slips 6-19 with “Right Above It,” which is not surprising for a song that sold so strongly in its first week of release. Downloads dip 55% from 225,000 to 101,000, though with radio play jumping by 135% to 9.9 million listener impressions, the song could rebound on the Hot 100 in the coming weeks. “Right” debuts at No. 20 on Rap Airplay list.
– Kid Cudi: He claims the chart’s Hot Shot Debut at No. 22 with “Erase Me,” featuring Kanye West. The preview single from Cudi’s upcoming sophomore set, “Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager,” due in late October, shifts 99,000 downloads.
– Cee-Lo Green: The Gnarls Barkley vocalist opens at No. 96 with “F**k You!,” the song that broke out on YouTube and has now reached radio and retail. With just a partial week of sales, the track, currently only available for purchase in explicit form, moves 21,000 downloads. Expect a notable jump on the Hot 100 next week.
